God made mom’s

Good Morning – Welcome to Jesus Church

Today we are going to take a break from our Holy Spirit Series

• • • So that we can honor our mom’s today
      • Because mothers reflect so much of the heart of God
      • And just being who you are – God shines through you
    • You were created with characteristics that reflect his glory
      • God invented Mothers… God thought them up
      • And He gave them to us as a gift

Story (Joke)

• • • 2^nd grade teacher teaching her class about magnet
      • Taught about
        • What it does
        • How it works
        • Why we use them
      • Spent a ton of time focused on magnets
        • By the end it really seemed like they got it
    • Next day she gave a test on what they learned yesterday
      • Test said: My full name has 6 letters
      • 1^st letter is “M”
        • I pick up things… what am I?
        • Half the class failed because they responded “Mother”
    • Of course there are many things mothers shouldn’t have to pick up
      • Men: Still time to pick up points w/ an AMEN [REPEAT]
      • Amazing: Our clothes magically accumulate on side of bed
      • Then we have to flip it up with our foot
        • Men are just weird

So God created Mothers…

Gen. 1:26-27

Then God said, “Let Us make man (Not male but mankind) in OUR image, according to OUR likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created (mankind) in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

• • • Very first image God revealed of himself was Male & Female
      • Not just male – Not just female
      • No… the Image of God is in both male & female
        • Because we are all the image of God
        • But different aspects of the image show up
          • In men and women
          • A lot of them are drastically different
    • And I’m not trying to create some new doctrine
      • God is referred to as a Father
      • Jesus referred to as a Son

But we have to understand God is not a Male

• • • Some of you might right now say Praise Jesus
      • Qualities of God are displayed in both male/female
      • I could prove it by common sense… but I’ll show thru Bible
        • The motherly nature of God
    • And listen… This isn’t some weird new doctrine
      • We believe God is our Father
      • But there is a maternal side to God in the Bible

And we have to understand Male and Female came from God

• • • If God was only male its only common sense
      • He couldn’t create females…
      • Because men don’t understand women
    • Def. FEMALE: Not male or opposite of male
      • One guy said it a different way
      • Fe – male: There’s a fee with this male
        • *Laugh* how much it’s cost
    • God designed Male/Female (please get it – especially world today)
      • God designed male and female to represent him
        • Male/Female are the image of God
          • Not just male
          • Not just female
          • Male and Female together are the full image of God

1. Mothers know (Mother’s intuition)

Mothers are the closest thing to omniscience on Earth

• • • I quite often believe they are all knowing/seeing
      • Because mom’s know what you are think
      • Will ask you about it while you think it
    • Some how motherhood gives the ability to read minds
      • They know what you’re thinking
      • They know what husbands are thinking
      • They know what children are thinking
      • They know what other women are thinking
        • Don’t even need to say anything
    • My wife knows what I’m thinking
      • There have been times around lots of people
        • Thinking of doing something I think is funny
        • Look across the room and glance at Michelle (
      • Here’s what she does (slight nod “no”)
        • I’ll shrug “what”
        • Then she just nods
          • How did she know
          • It’s a gift from God
    • Men can’t do that
      • Men don’t know what other men think… nor do we care
      • Women know AND care

So they know… but they also want to HEAR what you’re thinking

• • • #1 question women ask men: whatcha thinking
      • What do men say: Nothing
    • Which is true: We have ability to not think
      • With some of what we do… should know that by now
    • #2 question: (more tricky) What were u thinking
      • I get that when I wear black socks with brown pants
        • That’s the question… and the answer is we weren’t
        • Seriously they know our thoughts
        • And they got this from God

Matt. 9:4 – But Jesus, knowing their thoughts

Matt. 12:25 – But Jesus knew their thoughts

Lk. 5:22 – But when Jesus perceived their thoughts

Lk. 6:8 – But He knew their thoughts

Lk. 11:17 – But He, knowing their thoughts

Jesus was fully human/fully God

• • • Wasn’t man that reflects this quality of God… it was woman
      • Might ask Question… How is this encouraging?
      • In same way a good mother knows ur thoughts
        • Loves you anyway – That’s how God loves you

Is. 49:15 (relating mankind to God)

Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne?

• • • God knows u in weakest/most vulnerable times
      • In those times He loves you
      • Like a mother loves her nursing child

2. Mothers Care

Article – Mom and her sister parked car in August

• • • In sisters car: got out and doors auto locked
      • Keys were inside the car still
      • As was the mom 11 month old
    • Everyone freaked out – screaming/yelling
      • Call a tow truck
      • Call the cops
      • Call the fire department
        • Fire Department got their first
        • Broke the window
          • Got the baby out
    • Mom was relieved and so grateful
      • Sister was upset
      • Wanted fire fighter to pay for the window
        • Shows who the mother was

Like story in the Bible w/ King Solomon

• • • 2 women said this is my baby
      • King says we can just cut the baby in half
      • Each of you can have your part of the child
        • One said that’s fine with me
        • Other said no please don’t
          • Solomon said theirs the true mother

And Mom’s get their compassion, care & love from Jesus

• • • If I’m out watching a movie with guys/at meeting
      • Michelle can’t go to sleep til I’m home
      • Why: Because she cares
      • But they get this from God

Lk. 7:12-15

And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep”. Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you arise. So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

• • • Why did he do that? He’s a God of compassion

Matt. 9:36

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

• • • We all know that Jesus called himself a Shepherd
      • Look at this verse
      • Really shows mother instinct that comes from God

Matt. 23:37 (Jesus Speaking)

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not wiling!

• • • Jesus say: I wants to care for u like a mother
      • That’s the level of concern He has for you
        • Not like a Rooster… but like a Hen

This is a wonderful gifts in mothers: Came from God

• • • Guess who my kids run to when they’re sick
      • Mom
        • They don’t come to me
        • I don’t even know where the cough syrup is
        • Well I do now – Michelle told me
    • Who do you run to when you scrape your knee… MOM
      • Joey and I play the slug bug game
      • Added yellow cars as well
      • Michell gets mad at me when I see a slug but
        • Doesn’t get mad a Joey
    • Mom gives you all the concern you want
      • Why are they like that
      • Because they are made like God

Is. 66:13

As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem

If you can grasp these 2 things

• • • It will change your life
      • Mothers know & Mothers care
      • They got it from God so we know that… God knows & God cares
    • Satan #1 Lie: God doesn’t even know what going on in your life
      • If he did know – He wouldn’t even care
      • God doesn’t care about you
        • I’m telling you *God knows/God cares*
      • You ever seen a mom caring for kids in danger
      • Nothing more powerful than a mom/kids
        • This is a characteristic of God

Hosea 13:8 (NLT)

Like a bear whose cubs have been taken away, I will tear out your heart. I will devour you like a hungry lioness and mangle you like a wild animal.

• • • Don’t mess with moms
      • They will tear out your heart/devour you

3. Mothers help

• • • All her frogs lined up for school
      • She’s a 9 year old – wanting to be a mom
        • My son never did that
        • He lined up animals
          • Made zoos for them
          • Walked them into Noah’s ark
    • My sister has no Barbie’s from childhood
      • I ripped off all their heads
    • Mother have this quality to want to help others

1 Thess. 2:7

But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

This is an apostle who has a desire that is from God

• • • But is a characteristic attributed to moms

Matt. 12:20

A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench.

• • • How would u take care of a bruised reed: Nurture
      • This is Jesus – God is a nurturer
      • God wants to help you

Clarify something: People say this – bad theology

• • • People say: God won’t lead me into something if it not for my good
      • Not everything u get into is because God led you there
        • Some you got into completely on your own
        • Some is just life
          • Someone once said: Got flat tire from God
          • God doesn’t cause flat tires – Sharp objects do
    • God can use that flat tire for your/others good
      • Most likely didn’t lead you into trouble you’re in
      • But He will lead you through the trouble you’re in
        • If you will let him… and he will do it gently
    • B/C He has nurture/caring side we see in moms

Duet. 32:11

Like an eagle that rouses her chicks and hovers over her young… so he spreads his wings to take them up and carried them safely on his pinions.

This is in the Bible Paralleling birds and God

• • • Eagles can hover almost as well as hummingbirds
      • They will hover over the nests (3’) as the babies watch
      • To teach their babies about their wings
        • Eagles have to be taught they can fly
        • Without mom – They never leave nest
          • Never fulfill their natural gifting’s
    • This is exactly how mom’s are: And they get this from God
      • Just like God wants you to walk into your future
      • Using your gifting’s and abilities
        • Mother’s have this in their heart
        • Showing u how great & powerful ur wings are
        • Looking down at you
          • Believing in everything God’s made you to be
