Holy Spirit Series – Part 5 (Baptism in the Holy Spirit)

Welcome to Jesus Church – New Glad to have you

We are in the middle of a series on the Holy Spirit

Jn 20:21-22

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

  • So much here – Verse 21: Ground zero for doctrine of mission
    • As the Father sent the son
    • Now Jesus sends us to carry on His Kingdom work
    • He equips us to do so like he did the disciples
      • With the Holy Spirit
  • Last week we focused on the point of the Gifts of Spirit
    • This word is actually – Pneumatikos
    • Doesn’t mean gifts… means “Spirituals” or “stuff the Spirit does”
    • So the focus isn’t on us and our gift (not the point)
      • The focus is on what the Holy Spirit wants to do
      • This is language that Paul repeats over and over
      • And talks about the “Manifestation” or “Revealing”
  • So the reason (point) of what the Holy Spirit does
    • Is to continue the Kingdom work that Jesus started
    • Its why “Receive the Holy Spirit” is forever tied to “I’m sending u”

Tag: That was the hinge between the 1st & 2nd parts of series

This week we enter the Second Part of this series – Focus on Punematikos

  • Started series w/ who the Holy Spirit is – Person/Power/Presence
    • Now we are getting into how Holy Spirit works in our lives
    • This is talked about specifically in 1 Corinthians 12&14
  • Today we will talk about something called: Baptism of the Holy Spirit
    • What does that even mean
    • What does the Bible say about it
    • How does it affect my life today in Phoenix 2022
  • Super Controversial – Xians have been at it on this for over century
    • 1 Cor. 12&14 sandwich what’s known as “Love Chapter” of Bible
      • Just like you can’t have an OREO without the yummy middle
      • Can’t have a conversation about Gifts w/o the middle (Love)
      • Nobody wants Oreo Thins – We need double stuffed

Here is ground floor to start with – When talking on doctrine (teaching)

  • We have to put each teachings into 1 of 4 categories
    • 1 – Somethings you would die for
      • If the anti-christ took over Phoenix… gun to your head
      • Said “Do you believe Jesus is Lord”
        • That is a belief or doctrine we would die for (hopefully)
    • 2 – Somethings we would divide for
      • We believe in the Authority of the Bible – live in obedience
      • There is a progressive movement away from Bible right now
        • Says Bible is great collection of human documents
        • They point to a real true God – not authoritative in life
        • This is something we would divide over
          • I can’t go to church no believe in authority of Bible
    • 3 – Somethings we debate for – Civil debate or shouting match
      • This could be something like role of men & women in church
      • I would put beliefs of sovereignty in this category
        • So if something bad happens in your life
          • Was that God – B/C he is in control of all (Calvinist)
          • Or was it not God – demonic/mistake/fallen world
      • But not something we have to brake from church for
        • Definitely something that we argue about
        • But we don’t divide over it
    • 4 – Stuff you decide over – This is stuff that doesn’t effect much
      • Like Gen 6 – Who the heck are the Nephlim
      • What does it mean – Sons of God slept w/ daughters of men
        • Stuff we can talk about – what’s your opinion?
  • Problem is everyone wants to take a doctrine/conversation
    • Push it up into either “Die for” or “Divide for” categories
    • In reality we should push every doctrine we can to debate/decide
      • Obviously some things have to be die/divide
      • But when you debate and are passionate about something
        • I think “Wisdom” say we don’t need to split church
  • All to say: How we view Baptism of Holy Spirit should be debate for
    • So if you don’t agree with me at end of today – Totally fine
      • Doesn’t mean it’s not important – not worth studying
      • BUT – Series as a whole on the Holy Spirit – Should unify us
      • Be a safe place to explore what Bible says – how affects lives

Story: 13 years old – Set to go on my first missions trip

Super excited going on a plane to Mexico (no parents)

  • We had training meetings to learn what we needed to do
      • Practices our testimonies
      • Learned dramas and skits
  • Then 3rd meeting we were told – Can’t go w/o Baptism of Holy Spirit
    • Sorta confused me… thought I already had the Holy Spirit
    • But said if I didn’t speak in tongues… then you weren’t baptized
      • I needed the gifts from baptism to go to Mexico
        • So I was told I had the Holy Spirit – Just not his power
        • So He must be asleep in my body somewhere
  • At 13 I wasn’t taught about this at all
    • I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed
      • My Jr. High youth pastor prayed with me
      • My Sr. High youth pastor prayed with me

Almost became an awkward thing – So they just ignored it and let me go

  • So we get there and I’ve got all these leaders asking to pray w/ me
    • 1st night in bed by myself – Just started praying in tongues
    • Next day pastors prayed for me – Let them think happened then
  • But the whole thing was sorta odd – Definitely they tried to force it
    • Because of what they believed about this “Baptism of the H.S.”
    • What they had read in the Bible – Understood should happen

History – Where did this doctrine come from???

Actually doctrine called: Baptism of H.S. is a relatively new doctrine

  • 19th century there was sweeping move of God (Holiness movement)
    • Head of that was John Wesley – Founder of Methodist Church
      • One teaching was “Entire Sanctification” or “Xian Perfection”
      • Idea that w/ Holy Spirit u can achieve perfection (don’t sin)
        • To do this: Need a second experience after saved
        • This time with the Holy Spirit
        • Out of that came the term “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”
  • Then picked up by influential Xian writers: Finney, Moody, Edwards
    • All used different language – But said there is a 2nd experience
    • It happened after you are saved w/ the Holy Spirit
      • So they ran with this term “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”
      • Taught it is something you should seek after

1906 on Azusa street there was another sweep of God

  • Ignited what we now call Pentecostalism
    • Over last century now makes up over 25% of worldwide church
    • Pentecostalism picked up this idea of a 2nd experience
    • Stuck with the name “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”
  • But changed it to say instead of 2nd experience for Holiness
    • Instead it’s a 2nd experience for power and witness
    • Said it comes through laying on of hands
      • Evidence of if you have it or not – Speaking in tongues
      • This has become a core tenant of Pentecostalism
  • Example: Assemblies of God (largest Pentecostal denomination)
    • Hillsong/Dream City Church is out of this – Very Pentecostal
      • Again I don’t believe this is something to divide for
      • But… Hear is AoG doctrinal statement on this

Doctrine 7: Baptism of the Holy Spirit

All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and seek the promise of the Father, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and Fire according to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all in the early church

Doctrine 8: Initial physical evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

The Baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives them utterance.

Basically this is the idea of Pentecostals on this experience

  • You get saved Jesus becomes Lord of your life
    • Later you seek a 2nd experience (often w/ laying on of hands)
    • Holy Spirit comes on you – Evidence is speaking in tongues
    • This is something God has for all believers
  • So they would say this is formula to walk in the stuff the H.S. does
    • Let’s look at the scriptures that show this happening
    • Then look at the context
    • I think we will land with healthy understanding of what Bible says
      • And what happened in the First Century Church
  • Why does it matter: Is this important enough to put in series
    • If we as a church want to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit
    • I want everyone to be confident they have that power to walk in
    • There’s lots of teaching out there could make u think opposite

But lets look what the Bible says – Turn to Acts 1

Acts 1:4-8

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised (context – Holy Spirit), which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom of Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

This where idea: Baptism of Holy Spirit for Power & Witness comes from

  • Now were these people followers of Jesus: YES – Disciples
    • Were they saved: YES
    • But they had not yet been baptized with the Holy Spirit
    • According to Jesus… no

Acts 2:1-4

When the day of Pentecost came…

  • Jewish Feast – looked back to covenant God with Israel on Mt. Sinai
    • This was basically Israel’s B-Day
    • Very significant day when Old Covenant meets New Covenant

…they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind (Ruach – Spirit) came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire…

  • This is partially a fulfillment of what John the Baptist says
    • Talks about Jesus baptizing with the Holy Spirit and fire

…that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (First place we get the idea of initial evidence)

Taking just this: Easy to think this is template for all followers (2 stage)

  • First you receive the Holy Spirit (John 20)
    • Then u need Baptism of Holy Spirit & Evidence is tongues (Acts 2)
    • 2 stage process comes from here and two other passages

2nd – Acts 8:14-17

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them, they had simply been baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (Why we lay hands)

  • There is no doubt – This is clearly a 2 stage process
    • People who were saved
    • Prayed for b/c Spirit had not yet come on them
    • Then they received the Holy Spirit separate from Salvation
      • Language of Baptized of the Holy Spirit not used here
        • Baptism is
        • They received the Holy Spirit
  • But note: No mention of speaking in tongues when baptized

3rd – Acts 19:1-6

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (Even the question raises an eye brown) They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked (who is ur teacher – He’s fired), “Then what baptism did you receive?” John’s baptism, they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

  • Hear r some disciples – Don’t know about Jesus’ Baptism/Holy Spirit
    • Paul lays his hands on them
    • Spirit comes – Evidence here is speaking in tongues
  • This where idea: Baptism of Holy Spirit – 2 Stage process come from
    • Saved First
    • Baptized in Holy Spirit Second

TAG: Is this right and is it the only way we see it in scripture

A couple things to know w/ idea “Baptism of the H.S.”

First off – Baptism of Holy Spirit is a relatively brand new doctrine

  • Over 100 years old… but out of over 2000 years of church history
    • Doesn’t mean it is wrong
    • But whenever you hear a new doctrine – it means caution
    • If someone says after 2000 years – Here’s something u missed
      • Not always wrong but be very cautious

Second – Phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” doesn’t exist in scripture

  • Meaning: Word “Baptism” is always used as a verb (action)
    • So JESUS will baptize you in the Holy Spirit
    • Never read phrase Baptism of the Holy Spirit ever…
  • What we do read is “WITH or IN” the Holy Spirit
    • This isn’t just semantics
    • This means – Jesus is the one who does the baptizing
      • Not your Pastor
      • Not your friend
      • Only Jesus does the baptizing
  • This word “IN” is very important b/c just like being baptized IN water
    • Being baptized IN the Holy Spirit means
      • Jesus is the baptizer
      • Spirit is the water we are baptized into
      • Fully saturated in all the the Holy Spirit is (fruit – later)

Third – Phrase Baptism in Holy Spirit only used 7 times (4 of 7 in gospel)

Matt. 3:11 (Read 1 b/c they all are John the Baptist saying same thing)

I baptize you with water for repentance (this is different from what we do today – later) but after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you (verb) with/in the Holy Spirit and fire.

  • Baptize (verb): Baptizo – to immerse, sink, drench, soak
    • John clearly saying Jesus will immerse followers in the Holy Spirit
    • This isn’t really debatable – Either true or John is wrong
    • So there definitely is a baptism in the Holy Spirit
      • But what does that look like

Context of these stories – Very specific time in History

All of these writings (4 gospel examples – Acts 1 and 11 – 1 Cor. 12)

  • All these writings on the seam between 2 ages (Old/New Covenant)
    • We live now in the “Age of the Spirit”
    • Under old covenant (OT) – Moses to Jesus
      • Spirit of God only on a select few
      • Not like today where as Jesus follower – Have H.S. in you
  • In OT the Spirit only fell on: Prophet/Priest/King (Judge)
    • Elijah or a Priest or King David
    • Predominately came on for a select time usually (few exceptions)
  • Then you have Prophet Joel (Acts 2) – After Spirit comes
    • Everyone speaking in tongues – Many people hearing language
    • People are asking it if they are all just drunk
      • Peter stands up and says this

Acts 2:14-18

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophecy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dread dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

Basic point is – Here is Joel: 800 years before Jesus

  • Saying there is coming a day where everything you know will change
    • Spirit won’t only be on a few for a time
    • But the Spirit of God will fall on everyone
      • Not just Americans
      • Not just people you like
      • Not just Suns fans (maybe Lakers fans)
      • EVERYONE who calls on the name of God
  • This happens – Peter gets up and says this is all b/c of Jesus
    • Why: Because Jesus fulfilled all 3 roles (Prophet, Priest, King)
  • All 3 roles devolve on Jesus: Spirit falls Jesus – Happened w/ Baptism
    • In Jesus’ death it says he gives up “His Spirit”
    • Bad translation – Gk: Article not “HIS” but “THE” (not possessive)
    • Second of his death he gives up THE SPIRIT – Pneuma (Holy Spirit)
      • Curtain in the temple is torn in two – No more separation

Next chapter Jesus breaths on disciples and says “Receive the H.S.”

  • Again this is symbolic to when God breathes life into Adam
    • It was the completion of creation (same word used in OT/NT)
    • This is a renewal of what Adam and Eve had before the fall
  • This is Jesus (Prophet/Priest/King) redeeming what was lost
    • And He gives the Holy Spirit to his disciples
  • Then Acts 2 happens – With the coming of Spirit at Pentecost
    • Now the Spirit is coming to all Jesus followers
      • B/C of that we can all prophecy (1 Cor. makes crystal clear)
      • We are all priests (chosen priesthood – see Hebrews)
      • We are all kings (Rev – Jesus made us kings & priests to rule)
        • This is what Adam & Eve were originally supposed to do

So to sum up the timeline

  • Jesus states that when he goes away he will send his Spirit

Jn 16:7

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate (Spirit) will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.

  • Jesus then comes back & breathes on them: Says receive Holy Spirit
    • But this isn’t widespread quite yet
    • This is done so he could teach them through the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:1-2

In my former book Theophilus (Luke), I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

  • Next Jesus is taken up & then the Holy Spirit is given to all believers
    • This happens in Acts 2
    • Peter follows up by saying first that this written 800 years before

Acts 2:38

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  • So this is a new age that we now live in – The age of the Spirit
    • If nothing else – wake up tomorrow thanking God for the Spirit

Factoring all this lets Acts 2 takes on way different vibe

Yes in Acts 1 – There are followers of Jesus who had not yet received H.S.

  • Of course not: Because NO ONE had the Holy Spirit
    • He 1st gives the Holy Spirit to the disciples so He could teach them
      • Holy Spirit of course was at work in the world
      • But this idea from Paul of the “Indwelling Spirit”
      • It wasn’t released to everyone yet
  • Acts 2 – Pentecost – This is initial outpouring of Spirit on all people
    • This what Peter says – Quoting the prophet Joel… “day is coming”
    • That day came – Acts 2 – So this an absolutely unique occurrence
      • Not accurate to believe b/c of this – We should copy it
      • Or expect that this is the way it always works
        • Although I’d love to see tongues of fire above ur heads
        • Especially if you wear a lot of hairspray
  • But the truth remains that this was promised to us by God
    • It is something Jesus says to expect and be ready to receive
    • It is something that is for all followers of Jesus (Peter)
    • But as Peter says its very simple
      • Call on the name of Jesus
      • Be forgiven of your sins
      • You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

What about the other 2 passages – 2nd experience

Acts 19 – Paul on road and meets some disciples

  • Interesting that Paul asks if they received the Holy Spirit when saved
    • They had not – Begs the question why would Paul ask
    • Makes me believe there wasn’t a definitive formula

Acts 19:2-3

And (Paul) asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” John’s baptism, they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance.

  • So what we see here is disciples of John the Baptist… not Jesus
    • They don’t even know of the Holy Spirit
    • They were baptized through the ministry of John
  • John says for us to believe in the one who comes after me
    • They don’t even know who that is – It’s Jesus
    • So they didn’t even know of the ministry of Jesus
  • When Paul lays his hands on them – This is their moment of salvation
    • This wasn’t a second experience – It was their first experience
    • In that moment they are filled with the Spirit
    • And they manifest a gift of the Holy Spirit

Acts 8 – Love passage – 1st time Jews & Gentiles seen to receive the H.S.

  • This here shows people who absolutely are followers of Jesus
    • Have not yet received the Holy Spirit
    • Hands are laid on them – Holy Spirit is received
    • You can’t get around this one
  • Understand this is only clear example in all Bible of 2 stage process
    • Out of 22 stories of salvation in Acts – This is only one w/ 2 stages
    • My opinion – Can’t take this and say it is the only way it happens
      • In fact this is more the exception than the expectation
  • What this does shows us is God isn’t tied to a formula
    • Come up front… lay on hands
    • Stand a pray until you speak in tongues… now your good!
      • No: That isn’t God or how God works through the scriptures

Want to quickly 1 other view on the Holy Spirit

Cesationalism: Idea manifestation of Spirit have ceased

  • What the Spirit did in the early church is no longer for today
    • This way of thinking really took off w/ teacher – Schofield (Bible)
    • Really gained steam same time as Pentecostalism
      • So 1 side of the world u have Pentecostalism exploding
      • Other side are super smart people saying they’re crazy
  • Reasoning for cessationalism isn’t based on scripture
    • Any good cessationalist would agree on this fact
    • You can’t argue from the Bible that manifestations of Spirit r gone
      • They would rather argue from deductive reasoning
  • Argument goes as follows…
    • 1 – Don’t see manifestations written of regularly in church history
    • 2 – Don’t see manifestations in the local church today
    • 3 – When we c it in Bible – It’s in an elite few (Moses, Elijah, Paul)
      • These from OT and NT used by God to usher in new era

Now we have the Holy Spirit – Church is up and running – Have the Bible

  • So we no longer need these gifts of the Holy Spirit
    • Don’t need prophecy – have the Bible
    • Don’t need miracles – We have the gospel
  • Only place they will try to argue from the Bible (don’t go well)

1 Cor. 13:8-12

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

So cessationalist would say where it says “completeness comes”

  • All of this stuff (prophecy, tongues, knowledge) will cease
    • The completeness talked about is the close of the canon (Bible)
    • So when John finished writing Revelation
    • And after it was all put together for the church
      • At this moment – All these manifestations were done
      • Because we now have the New Testament

Honestly this just doesn’t hold water at all (most don’t argue that)

  • 1 – If true we no need prophecy/tongues… also no need knowledge
    • No cessationalist would say that – All about knowledge & reason
    • But you can’t pick and choose
  • 2 – Completeness here clearly isn’t the finalization of the Bible
    • But it’s resurrection and the age to come
      • B/C my time in the Bible isn’t yet “Face to Face”
      • Bible time is awesome… but not that awesome
    • And we know a lot – Don’t know fully (this is future)
      • Of course in heaven no need prophecy/tongues/knowledge
      • We will just talk to Jesus
      • I’ll be out of a job – You’ll already know everything

TAG: So there is no way you can argue this point if you go to scripture

Where does that leave us on Baptism of the Holy Spirit

What I see in scripture is: One salvation but many fillings

  • Yes we read Jesus will Baptize us in Holy Spirit… but we also read
    • Filling of the H.S. / Outpour of the H.S.
    • Clothing of the H.S. / Empowering of the H.S.
    • Receiving of the H.S. / Giftings of the H.S.
  • All of these metaphors are connected to becoming follower of Jesus
    • I would say that when u receive Jesus
    • Ideally your baptized in the name of Jesus & in the Spirit of God
      • Jesus does this work – Soaking you in the Spirit
  • And if you understand Baptism culturally – Which we don’t
    • It was an initiation right – Its how u become part of new family
    • Why if a Jew/Eastern religion becomes follower of Jesus
      • They hold a funeral
      • It’s a cultural way of saying I’m leaving 1 family for another
      • This is what baptism is
        • Leaving Kingdom of Darkness for Kingdom of God

So when we receive Jesus – We are joining a new family (Body of Christ)

  • Part of this is “Gift of Holy Spirit” but don’t think it should stop there
    • We should continually seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit
      • To say God fill me every day with more faith/belief/love
      • Empty me of fear/hate/sin/secularism
  • I believe in a 2nd filling… as long as I can also believe in a 3rd, 4th, 5th
    • I want to be filled every day with the Spirit of God
    • So it is absolutely right to seek more of the Holy Spirit
      • For power and witness in the Kingdom of God as Jesus said
    • And TO seek the manifestations of the Spirit
      • Paul says this in 1 Cor. 14 – Eagerly desire the pnumatikos
      • Especially prophecy (next week)
  • And for some people there is a 2nd experience with manifestation
    • But I believe this is more about the SEEKING than a FORMULA
      • And the goal of all of it is the unity of believers (church)
      • For the ushering in of the Kingdom of God

Paul says this about unity in the Spirit (Close)

1 Cor. 12:13

For we were (past tense) all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Paul here talking about being baptized in the Holy Spirit

  • And how many of us have been baptized – ALL OF US
    • So if you’re a follower of Jesus – Don’t worry if u have Holy Spirit
    • U are 100% part of church body – Equipped for every good work
      • So Jew, Gentile, rich, poor, male, female
      • All of the dividers humanity tries to put up
      • These have no place in the Kingdom of God
  • Paul’s point: Is no separation – Danger in some of these teachings
    • You separate into the “haves” and “have nots”
    • This person has baptism and speaks in tongues
      • If you don’t… well I don’t know what’s wrong
      • I guess you don’t have the Holy Spirit yet
      • So people who don’t speak in tongues feel less spiritual
  • Point is not about that at all – But that we all r baptized into 1 spirit
    • Corinthian Church was over the top screwed up
    • No matter where you come – Who you are
    • If you are baptized into Jesus – You have the fullness of the Spirit

But as Paul says – Ask for the Holy Spirit to work in/through your life

  • Be willing to let H.S. work through you – Even if its not comfortable
    • And if you haven’t seen the H.S. operate through you
    • That is why Paul says to desire what the Spirit does
    • This is why he teaches so specifically on it
  • It is a tool God gave us to effectively usher in Kingdom of God
    • And again like we said few weeks ago – It’s based on Relationship
    • As you grow closer in walk… you’ll see more of what Spirit does
      • And wants to do through you

[PRAY]

If you are here and haven’t been seeking the stuff the spirit does

  • Start seeking that out today – If u follow Jesus – Spirit is in you
    • I believe wants to work through you
    • So seek that out and ask him… come get prayer
