Thankful Response
My Status – Job 29:21-22, 30:9-10

Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
How do we respond when life is good—and how do we respond when it is not? Job experienced extraordinary blessings, but he also endured unimaginable loss. His story challenges us to examine whether our gratitude and trust in God are rooted in our circumstances or in our understanding of who God is. Together we will explore different areas of life: my possessions, my status, my family, and my faith. When these areas are thriving, do we recognize God as the source of every blessing? When they are shaken taken away, can we still see His presence and trust His character? A thankful response is not pretending everything is good. It is choosing to worship, trust, and remain faithful because God is always good—regardless of what is happening around us.

9 “Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” 10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. 11 So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies— 12 I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! 13 And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life! 14 And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.” 1 Kings 3:9-14
“For this has been decreed by the messengers; it is commanded by the holy ones, so that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world. He gives them to anyone he chooses—even to the lowliest of people.” Daniel 4:17

14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14-15
