Scared Mothers – Luke 1:30
Sunday, June 14, 2026
Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
Let’s walk In Her Steps and explore the paths walked by faithful women who knew joy, pain, waiting, fear, and hope. Lois and Eunice model generational legacy and an enduring faith, while Hannah’s story encourages waiting mothers. We’ll learn from Naomi, who shows us how God meets us in grief, and Mary, who reminds every scared or uncertain parent that God is near, even in the unknown. Through their stories, and others, we’ll discover a faith that guides our steps, shapes our families, and points us toward the God who sees every season of motherhood and every heart that longs to nurture, lead, or love.

Scared Mothers
Luke 1:26-38
1. Without God, scary circumstances will us.
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” Jeremiah 17:9
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people. 1 Corinthians 14:33
10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless. 11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:10-12
Notes:
2. Without God, scary circumstances will not help us .
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

3. With God, scary circumstances will give us .
Lillian Anthony
“Mike and I have been married for 42 years. I was the Woman’s Chaplain at Chester County Prison for twenty-five years and retired in 2018. For ten years we dealt with our daughter’s drug and alcohol issues, depression and constant hospital stays. Finally, an eating disorder caused us to diligently seek God’s help. Only later did we find out she had been assaulted and didn’t know how to talk about it. Through it all I relied on Matthew 9:29 “Because of your faith, it will happen.” What God has ahead of you is greater than what is behind you. Do not stress about it, place it in His hands and trust in His perfect timing.”
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:2-4

Challenge:
How are you inviting God into the scary circumstances in your life today?
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Growth Challenge:
Each day this week pray that God would encourage you as you walk through scary circumstances.
Read Proverbs 4:1-27 in preparation for next week’s message.
