In Her Steps
Foster & Adoptive Mothers – Exodus 2:5-10
Sunday, May 31, 2026
Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
Let’s walk In Her Steps and explore the paths walked by faithful women who knew joy, pain, waiting, fear, and hope. Lois and Eunice model generational legacy and an enduring faith, while Hannah’s story encourages waiting mothers. We’ll learn from Naomi, who shows us how God meets us in grief, and Mary, who reminds every scared or uncertain parent that God is near, even in the unknown. Through their stories, and others, we’ll discover a faith that guides our steps, shapes our families, and points us toward the God who sees every season of motherhood and every heart that longs to nurture, lead, or love.

Foster & Adoptive Mothers
Exodus 2:5-10
1. We to make hard choices out of love and compassion.
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Notes:
2. We are to follow God over man.
But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.” Acts 5:29
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
Notes:
3. We get to in blessings we never saw coming.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Notes:
Beka Bailey
“From a young age, I always dreamed of having a big family and hoped that one day we would adopt. As we tried to grow our family, God carried us through several miscarriages and the loss of a stillborn baby. Through those seasons of grief, He gently led us toward foster care and opened our hearts to children who needed love, safety, and belonging. Along the way, God has stretched our patience, deepened our trust in Him, and continued to bring healing to our family. We are grateful for the beautiful ways He has worked through both the joys and challenges of fostering and adoption.”
Challenge:
How is God challenging me to love others?
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Growth Challenge:
This week look for opportunities to love others well.
Read Ruth 1 in preparation for next week’s message.
All Bible verses are from the New Living Translation (NLT) unless otherwise noted.
