In Her Steps

Sacrificial Mothers – Exodus 2:3
Sunday, May 24, 2026
Pastor Mike Bailey

Introduction

Let’s walk In Her Steps and explore the paths walked by faithful women who knew joy, pain, waiting, fear, and hope. Lois and Eunice model generational legacy and an enduring faith, while Hannah’s story encourages waiting mothers. We’ll learn from Naomi, who shows us how God meets us in grief, and Mary, who reminds every scared or uncertain parent that God is near, even in the unknown. Through their stories, and others, we’ll discover a faith that guides our steps, shapes our families, and points us toward the God who sees every season of motherhood and every heart that longs to nurture, lead, or love.

Sacrificial Mothers

Exodus 2:1-10

1. The need to sacrifice never comes at a time.

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Notes:

2. God’s is greater than your fears.

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” Genesis 50:20

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9

Notes:

3. God can use your sacrifice to change anywhere.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Notes:

Tara Belmonte

“I had thought sacrificial love was when we were raising our granddaughter who was just a baby. The real sacrifice came when it was time to give her back to our daughter. The story of Moses’ mother putting him into a basket in the river and entrusting him to God became so real to me. Our loving Father taught me not only to give Him our granddaughter, but also to give Him my pain and fears. There is no better place to be than in our Father’s everlasting arms!”

Challenge:

Am I continuing to move toward who God is calling me to be in spite of the sacrifices?

If not, why have I stalled?

How is God using my sacrifice?

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God

raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Growth Challenge:

List the blessings you have seen come from sacrifices in your life.

Read Exodus 2  in preparation for next week’s message.

All Bible verses are from the New Living Translation (NLT) unless otherwise noted.
