Leaving Room for God to Provide – 2 Kings 4:1-7

Introduction
What would happen if we stopped trying to control everything and instead allowed space for God to move? Room for God invites us to create margin for what matters most. From waiting on the resurrection to trusting in the impossible at the Red Sea, we’ll see how God works in the spaces we often fill ourselves. Through Mary and Martha, we’ll confront misplaced priorities, and through a widow’s miracle, we’ll witness God’s provision. We’ll also reflect on how easy it is to lose focus on what matters most. Slow down. Let go. Trust deeper. When you make room for God, you make room for the miraculous.

Leaving Room for God to Provide
2 Kings 4:1-7
1. God may allow so He can provide. (2 Kings 4:1-7, 1 Kings 17:1-7)
7 “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me… a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. 11 There I will provide for you, lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine.” Genesis 45:7-8, 11
Notes:
2. God asks us to what we have so He can provide. (1 Kings 17:8-16, Genesis 22:6-14)
And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” Genesis 22:14
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25
28 Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.” Luke 18:28-30
Notes:
3. God’s provision often defies . (Judges 7:1-22)
7 “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.” Matthew 10:7-10
Notes:
4. Leaving room for God to provide means of our . (Exodus 16)
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:31-33
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 2 Corinthians 4:7
Notes:
5. Leaving room for God to provide is not a for . (2 Thessalonians 3:6-13)
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

Challenge:
In what areas do I need to get out of my own way so God can provide as He wills?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:32
31 Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Luke 5:31-32
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:3,6
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
