New Attitude – Romans 8:15-17
Sunday, January 25, 2026
Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
The Apostle Paul reminds us that in Christ we are no longer condemned, controlled by sin, or driven by fear. Instead, we are given new life, led by the Spirit, and empowered to live in a way that pleases God. Over four weeks—New Life, New Control, New Obligations, and New Attitude—we will discover what it means to walk in freedom, replace fear with hope, and live confidently as God’s sons and daughters. This new year don’t just try harder—be Made New.

New Attitude
Romans 8:15-17
1. New attitude because circumstances have . (Romans 8:15)
But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1
Notes:
2. New attitude because we are not anymore. (Romans 8:16)
“No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.” John 14:18
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8
Notes:
3. New attitude because of a new . (Romans 8:17a)
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5
Notes:
4. New attitude because trials are not as . (Romans 8:17b)
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 1 Peter 1:6-8

Challenge:
What truth have you forgotten about Jesus? How will you shift your attitude because of that truth?
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Growth Challenge:
This week reconcile your attitude with the identity you have in Jesus.
Read Romans 8:31 in preparation for next week’s message.
