New Priorities – Ruth Ruth 2:1-23
Sunday, September 14
Pastor Mike Bailey

Introduction

The book of Ruth is a beautiful picture of God’s redemption at work in ordinary lives. In the midst of loss and hardship, Ruth, a widow, chooses to go with her mother-in-law Naomi, and embraces the unknown future that comes with living outside the social norms. Her new life is challenging but God provides through Boaz, a kinsman-redeemer who not only secures Ruth’s future but also restores hope for Naomi. Their lives point to the greater story as God weaves loyalty, love, and faithfulness into his plan of salvation. Through Ruth’s faith we see a glimpse of Christ—the ultimate Redeemer—who brings new beginnings, new priorities, and new purpose to all who trust in Him.

New Priorities

Ruth 2:1-23

1. God has a big plan for those who prioritize Him. (1-4) Ruth 2:1-4

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:6

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4

Notes:

2. Others are how our circumstances affect our priorities. (5-13) Ruth 2:5-13

‘‘Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Luke 12:34

But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” John 12:4-5

Notes:

3. As we prioritize God where we are, God will our expectations. (14-18) Ruth 2:14-18

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. Psalm 62:5

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

Notes:

4. Prioritizing God in the unknown can give us when we need it most. (19-23) Ruth 2:19-23

6 Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, 7 for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today! Psalm 95:6-7

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Notes:

Challenge: Where is God in our list of priorities?

It’s your sins that have cut YOU off from God. Isaiah 59:2a

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of HIS glorious standard. Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ JESUS our Lord. Romans 6:23

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in YOUR heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
