Generosity – Matthew 6:1-4
Sunday, June 29, 2025
Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
The greatest sermon ever told was not preached by a celebrity pastor or even a famous prophet. It was not given from a stage or in a convention center. It was given from a hillside with standing room only. The speaker was not paid for his time, nor was the event promoted, yet thousands were in attendance. This man ultimately paid for his words with his own life and became the most influential religious leader in all of history. This is a sermon worth hearing and this is the message we all need.

“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “ Acts 20:35
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi 3:10
Notes:
5. God us to be generous.
17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (ESV)
Notes:
Challenge: What needs to change about my generosity?
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
