Freedom Habits

Freedom |  Part 2

January 13th and 14th 2023

You’re only as as the .

When you , you .

John 8:31-36 (ESV) So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

2 Peter 2:19 (GN) They promise them freedom while they themselves are slaves of destructive habits—for we are slaves of anything that has conquered us.

How to Get Rid of Bad Habits

Romans 7:15-25 (NLT) I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate…I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway…Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.

It becomes a part of your identity.

You feel increasingly hopeless.

You become defensive.

You become a slave.

You begin to lose your life.

  • Acknowledge it and .

James 1:21 (GN) So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct. Submit to God and accept the wordthat he plants in your hearts, which is able to save you.

  • Remove the .

  1. Time
  2. Place
  3. Mood
  4. Moment
  5. People

Proverbs 4:14-15 (NIV) Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.

  • Replace the .

Luke 11:24-26 (NIV) When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before.

Bad habits are easy to develop, but hard to live with.

Good habits are hard to develop, but easy to live with.

  1. I will .

Genesis 2:2-3 (NKJV) And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

  1. I will .

1 John 4:1 (NIV) Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

  1. I will .

Hebrews 5:12-14 (DLNT) For indeed, [although] being obligated to be teachers because of the time, you again have a need that someone be teaching you the elements of the beginning concerning the oracles of God. And you have become ones having a need of milk and not of solid food. For everyone partaking of milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But the solid food is for the mature— the ones because of habit having their faculties trained for discernment of both good and evil.

Real and lasting change isn’t ,

it is .
