POWER IS COMING!!!

Today is Pentecost Sunday.

What is Pentecost Sunday/The Day of Pentecost?

  • Pentecost is a remarkably significant event in the life of the believer.

  • It is celebrated 50 days after the Resurrection.

  • This is where the church was birthed.

  • It commemorates the FULFILLED PROMISE Jesus made to his disciples; to send the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:1-8 (KJV)

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that HE through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, AFTER THAT the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Your power will be restored… AFTER THAT

8 BUT ye shall receive power, AFTER THAT the Holy Ghost is come UPON YOU: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

God is saying “the DARKNESS is DONE” –

Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)

2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

BE FILLED TODAY…

THE HOLY SPIRIT – GOD released in the world

The Holy Spirit is a GIFT – OUR POWER SOURCE!

Luke 11:13 (NIV)

13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

The function of the HOLY SPIRIT:

Advocates

John 15:26 (NLT)

26 “But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.

Convicts

John 16:8 (NLT)

8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

Teaches

John 14:26 (NLT)

26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Guides

John 16:13 (NLT)

13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future

Comforts

Romans 15:13 (NLT)

13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Frees

2 Corinthians 3:17 (NLT)

17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom

Protects/Delivers

Acts 5:17-20 (NLT)

17 The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, 20 “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”

Produces

Galatians 5:22-23 (AB,CE)

22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,

23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].

Electrifies

Romans 8:11 (KJV)

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Intercedes

Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV)

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God

Fills

Acts 19:1-6 (NLT)

19 While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers. 2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them.

“No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3 “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked.

And they replied, “The baptism of John.”

4 Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”

5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.

why…

John 14:12

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit –

  • Have an understanding of who he is

  • Relinquish the need to be in control

  • Humble myself – pride keeps me full of me

  • Ask Holy Spirit to fill me

  • Have faith that he will freely give me the Gift of his spirit (that was purposed for me) – dismiss all fear

  • RECEIVE The Gift of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit:

Resolves, Heals, and Closes wounds/doors from our past

The Holy Spirit:

Clears pathways, gives direction, provides protection in our present

The Holy Spirit:

Shares vision/foresight and endows us with boldness, to obediently step into our future
