Wednesday Service | Putting On Your New Self | Part 2 – My Mindset | Jordan Brawner

January 15, 2025

  • To be strong… I have to adjust my

2 Timothy 2:1 (NIRV)

My son, be strong in the grace that is yours in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIRV)

9 But he said to me, “My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I am very happy to brag about how weak I am. Then Christ’s power can rest on me.

  • Mind set shift #1 – From insecurity to

2 Timothy 2:2 (NIRV)

2 You have heard me teach in front of many witnesses. Pass on to people you can trust the things you’ve heard me say. Then they will be able to teach others also.

Colossians 3:23 (AB)

23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men…

  • Mindset shift #2 – From civilian life to specialized

2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NIRV)

3 Like a good soldier of Christ Jesus, join with me in suffering. 4 A soldier does not take part in things that don’t have anything to do with the army. Instead, he tries to please his commanding officer.

Galatians 1:10 (NLT)

10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

  • Mindset shift #3 – Paying attention to the

2 Timothy 2:5 (NIRV)

5 It is the same for anyone who takes part in a sport. They don’t receive the winner’s crown unless they play by the rules.

1 Corinthians 9:25-27 (NIRV)

25 All who take part in the games train hard. They do it to get a crown that will not last. But we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 So I do not run like someone who doesn’t run toward the finish line. I do not fight like a boxer who hits nothing but air. 27 No, I train my body and bring it under control. Then after I have preached to others, I myself will not break the rules. If I did break them, I would fail to win the prize.

  • Mindset shift #4 – Allow yourself to be by your work

2 Timothy 2:6-7 (NIRV)

6 The farmer who works hard should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Think about what I’m saying. The Lord will help you understand what all of it means.

1 Timothy 5:17-18 (AB)

17 The elders who perform their leadership duties well are to be considered worthy of double honor (financial support), especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching [the word of God concerning eternal salvation through Christ]. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain [to keep it from eating],” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages [he deserves fair compensation].”

  • Mindset shift #5 – A theology of suffering

2 Timothy 2:8-10 (NIRV)

8 Remember Jesus Christ. He came from David’s family line. He was raised from the dead. That is my good news. 9 I am suffering for it. I have even been put in chains like someone who has committed a crime. But God’s word is not held back by chains. 10 So I put up with everything for the good of God’s chosen people. Then they also can be saved. Christ Jesus saves them. He gives them glory that will last forever.

2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIRV)

17 Our troubles are small. They last only for a short time. But they are earning for us a glory that will last forever. It is greater than all our troubles.
