Between What Was & What Can Be! | Mike Teixeira

“A transitional space of being in between…where transformation, reflection and potential exist.”
Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
3 choices to move forward from what was into what can be…
Choice #1- the focus
Philippians 3:13
“But I focus on this one thing…”
Choice #2- Say a “”-bye to yesterday!
Philippians 3:13
“But I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead”
Philippians 3:5-7
5 I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. 6 I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault.
7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
3 questions to help say a “good”-bye to yesterday:
- What person/people made the biggest difference in your life?
“No one human being can bring out all of another person, but it takes a whole circle of human beings (community) to extract the real you. In each of my friends there is something that only some other friend can bring out.”
C.S. Lewis
- What lesson/lessons learned will you carry into this next year?
John Maxwell…
“The best teacher isn’t experience. It’s EVALUATED experience!”
- Where did God use tension to stretch you to increase your capacity for next year?
Jeremiah 12:5 (MSG)
“So, Jeremiah, if you’re worn out in this footrace with men,
what makes you think you can race against horses?
And if you can’t keep your wits during times of calm,
what’s going to happen when troubles break loose
like the Jordan in flood?
Choice #3- your time into what matters most
Philippians 3:14
14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
“Time and chances are given to all of us”
