1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIRV)

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child. I thought like a child. I had the understanding of a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

[1] A mark of is when we have taken on the role our parents once had for us… becoming your own source, your own guardian, your own manager

  • Emotionally mature people… are not looking for a parent figure to their life…

[2] God gave us emotions but they aren’t meant to our lives

[3] Emotionally mature people… are

[4] Emotionally mature people… take and responsibility

Genesis 3:9-12 (NIRV)

9 But the Lord God called out to the man. “Where are you?” he asked. 10 “I heard you in the garden,” the man answered. “I was afraid, because I was naked. So I hid.” 11 The Lord God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten fruit from the tree I commanded you not to eat from?” 12 The man said, “It’s the fault of the woman you put here with me. She gave me some fruit from the tree. And I ate it.”

  • If you want to stay the same, and not grow, play the game

[5] Emotionally mature people… knowing we don’t know

Hosea 4:6 (AMP)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge [of My law, where I revel My will].

  • When we think we know everything we need to know, we stop learning, then we stop growing, and we get left

[6] Emotionally mature people… know that in this life we make a lot of … but they can make us stronger if we consider what went wrong

  • After dealing with mistakes we learn… I can more than I thought I could

  • We learn… The bigger the decision the more I need to seek or knowledge I may not have… [going it alone can be dangerous]

  • We learn… My and what my parents taught me isn’t enough to guide me successfully

Proverbs 26:11-12 (NIRV)

11 Foolish people who do the same foolish things again are like a dog that returns to where it has thrown up. 12 Do you see a person who is wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a foolish person than for them.

  • People usually operate in … until we recognize the bad ones and make an intentional change

Proverbs 21:11 (NKJV)

11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

  • Wise people just have to be told what will happen and they get it… Simple people have to someone go through it before they learn the lesson

Proverbs 12:15 (GWT)

15 A stubborn fool considers his own way the right one, but a person who listens to advice is wise.

  • are emotionally immature people

  • Fools don’t wise people do

Proverbs 18:15 (NLT)

15 Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.

[7] The more we practice learning the we get at it

  • We can grow our learning

  • Emotionally immature people are more interested in… drama, entertainment and mechanisms

  • Great learners find great

  • Great learners find valuable
