Wednesday Service | Mastering My Emotions | Part 2 – Overcoming Anxiety | Jordan Brawner

October 9, 2024

2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NLV)

You must understand that in the last days there will come times of much trouble. 2 People will love themselves and money. They will have pride and tell of all the things they have done. They will speak against God. Children and young people will not obey their parents. People will not be thankful and they will not be holy. 3 They will not love each other. No one can get along with them. They will tell lies about others. They will not be able to keep from doing things they know they should not do. They will be wild and want to beat and hurt those who are good. 4 They will not stay true to their friends. They will act without thinking. They will think too much of themselves. They will love fun instead of loving God. 5 They will do things to make it look as if they are Christians. But they will not receive the power that is for a Christian. Keep away from such people.

  • It’s not hard to understand why we deal with anxiety when you look at the toxic times we live in through a biblical lens

[1] Anxiety… is our internal system going off

  • anxiety is helpful… but if it becomes limiting its time to open the hood and figure out what’s setting off our check engine life

  • Anxiety is designed to signal that something is … that I am vulnerable, or not ready or not safe

[2] A door opens to unwanted anxiety… when I don’t myself

  • Negative emotions are given a home when I allow toxic to live in my mind

  • A new healthy narrative: Its not that I’m permanently broken… I’m just missing the and strategies that I need

  • A door of anxiety closes as I build greater trust with myself because I’ve developed a skill or a strategy I didn’t have

[3] A door opens to unwanted anxiety… when I give into

  • Maybe I need to… say I’m

  • Maybe I need to… have a hard but truthful

  • Maybe I need to… put something back into

  • Maybe I need to… pay off a

  • Maybe I need to… overcome a bad

[4] A door opens to unwanted anxiety… when my and actions do not align

Romans 14:22-23 (NIRV)

22 Whatever you believe about these things, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the person who doesn’t feel guilty for what they do. 23 But whoever has doubts about what they eat is guilty if they eat. That’s because their eating is not based on faith. Everything that is not based on faith is sin.

[7] A door opens to unwanted anxiety… when I don’t know God’s

1 John 4:18 (NCV)

Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear, so love is not made perfect in the person who fears.

2 Timothy 1:7 (AB)

7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

  • Knowing God cares for me means… I actually take the time to what’s bothering me and take time to receive
