2 Chronicles 32:1 NIV

AFTER all that Hezekiah had so faithfully done, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself.”

When facing a battle on the other side of breakthrough…

1. that the place of breakthrough is what the enemy comes after

2 Chron. 32:2 NIV- “Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to make war on Jerusalem…”

2 Chron. 32:7-8 NIV

7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power WITH US than with him. 8 With him is only the arm of flesh, but WITH US is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles. (Everyone say God is fighting for us!) And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.”

2. the enemy’s strategy at work against you

2 Chronicles 32:10-18 NIV

Doubt…

VS. 10 “This is what Sennacherib king of Assyria says: On what are you basing your confidence, that you remain in Jerusalem under siege?”

Confusion…

VS. 11 “When Hezekiah says, ‘The LORD, our God will save us from the hand of the king of Assyria,’ he is misleading you, to let you die of hunger and thirst”

Second Guessing…

VS. 12 “Did not Hezekiah himself remove this god’s high places and altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one altar and burn sacrifices on it’?

Intimidation…

VS. 13 “Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the other lands? Were the gods of those nations ever able to deliver their land from my hand?”

Hopelessness…

VS. 14 “Who of all the gods of these nations that my fathers destroyed has been able to save his people from me? How then can your god deliver you from my hand?”

Impossibility…

VS. 15 “Now do not let Hezekiah deceive you and mislead you like this. Do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your god deliver you from my hand?

Fear…

VS 18 “Then they called out in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to terrify them and make them afraid in order to capture the city.”

3. who’s fighting for you

“One victory in the battle doesn’t signal the end of the war. It just means it’s time to reload!”

Jack Hayford

2 Chron. 32:20 NIV

“King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to heaven about this.

2 Kings 19:15-19 NLT

15 And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the Lord: “O Lord, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth. 16 Bend down, O Lord, and listen! Open your eyes, O Lord, and see! Listen to Sennacherib’s words of defiance against the living God.

17 “It is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations. 18 And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all—only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands. 19 Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power; then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone, O Lord, are God.

2 Chron. 32:22 NIV

“So the LORD saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib King of Assyria and from the hand of all others. He took care of them on every side.
