The Christmas We Need | Part 2 – Somebody’s Waiting On Me | Adisa Browning

December 10, 2023

There are 5 key elements to every story….

1) Plot

2) Setting

3) Characters

4) Point of view

5) Conflict

Luke 2:22-31 (NIV)

22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:

Somebody’s Waiting On Me

Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)

13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Point 1: God Will Show Up For Me

Isaiah 59:19 (KJV)

19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Romans 8:28-30 (AMPC)

28 We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren. 30 And those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified (acquitted, made righteous, putting them into right standing with Himself). And those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity and condition or state of being].

We all are like Simeon:

  • Hanging onto a word from God that He is not done with me yet
  • Believing that whatever God has spoken over me will happen; no matter what it looks like right now would be
  • Moved by the Holy Spirit to meet Him where He told us He
  • With open arms ready to welcome the promise
  • Postured to worship in the presence of our King

Point 2: I Have To Show Up For Somebody Else

You have to know who you are:

1 Corinthians 3:9 (AMPC)

9 For we are fellow workmen (joint promoters, laborers together) with and for God; you are God’s garden and vineyard and field under cultivation, [you are] God’s building.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

1 John 4:4 (AMPC)

4 Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.

Hebrews 13:6 (ESV)

6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?
