April 19, 2023

Ephesians 6:10 (NIRV)

Finally, let the Lord make you strong. Depend on his mighty power.

GWT

Finally, receive your power from the Lord and from his mighty strength.

AB

In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might.

(1) We can’t get strong until we admit we have a problem

(2) God won’t lead you until he can

Deuteronomy 8:2-3 (NIV)

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Psalm 19:7 (NIV)

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

1 Kings 19:1-8 (ESV)

Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God.

(3) We coach ourselves by asking: ?

  • A coach brings

1 Kings 19:9-10 (NIRV)

There he went into a cave and spent the night.

A message came to Elijah from the Lord. He said, “Elijah, what are you doing here?”

10 He replied, “Lord God who rules over all, I’ve been very committed to you. The Israelites have turned their backs on your covenant. They have torn down your altars. They’ve put your prophets to death with their swords. I’m the only one left. And they are trying to kill me.”

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV)

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…

1 Samuel 27:1 (NIRV)

David thought, “Some day Saul will destroy me. So the best thing I can do is escape. I’ll go to the land of the Philistines…

  • Lying to ourselves can be

Craig Groeschel –

“The greatest gift you can give yourself is honesty. Why? Because you will never be able to lead yourself as long as you lie to yourself. And the scary thing is nobody lies like leaders. We can be the best at self deception. We tend to elevate ourself in our own mind. We don’t listen to be around us. We find it very difficult to be objective. The best gift you can give yourself is to be honest. Because you’ll never be able to lead yourself as long as you lie to yourself.

(4) Coach your soul

Psalm 103 (NIV)

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—

who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

  • your past victories

  • you’re under divine protection

  • yourself who your God is
