Changed Or Remain Part 2: One decision away

August 28, 2022

BIG IDEA: “A connected life is a flourishing and fruitful life”

John 15:1-2 (NLT)

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

John 15:3-4 (NLT)

You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

“Remain”… means to abide, dwell, live in…

John 15:5 (NLT)

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Reasons why disconnection happens…

  • No margin
  • Spiritual fatigue
  • Hurt
  • Out of the habit

Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)

And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:23-25 (NLT)

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Two reasons WHY we need to be connected to Jesus and others…

  1. We can’t stand alone before God without Jesus
  2. We can’t stand alone for long in this world without others

We need to plant ourselves in places and spaces where we can…

  • by digging into God’s Word with others
  • up…consistently
  • friends that make the difference when life gets real
  • the gifts God has given us

African Proverb…

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
