Summer in the Psalms: The Psalms of Ascent

August 4, 2024

Today we explore the book of Psalms within the Book of Psalms. 15 Psalms comprise what is known as the Psalms of Ascent. Psalms 120-134 act as the national handbook of worship for the ancient Jews. These were sung and recited on the holy holy feast days. Today we will explore what they meant then for Gods people, and their enduring message for us today.

Here’s the big idea this morning: Remembering the former things of the Lord, reminds us of our present confidence in the Lord, and strengthens our hope in the future because of the Lord.

Here’s what I want you to remember this morning: In Jesus the Lord has indeed blessed you and kept you, he has indeed shone his face upon you.

Here’s how we’ll get there

  1. Background to the Psalms of Ascent
  2. Psalm 125
    1. A reassuring declaration (v1) (MULTILINE)
    2. A reassuring reality (v2) (MULTILINE)
    3. A reassuring promise (v3) (MULTILINE)
    4. A reassuring petition (v4) (MULTILINE)
    5. A reassuring proclamation (V5)  (MULTILINE)
