A Ready Defense (Part 1)

January 29, 2023 / Pastor Ross O'Dell / 1 Peter 3:13-17

After giving us 13 virtues to live by as Christians, Peter now gives us 1 Peter 3:12, talking about prayer. Why is this so important?

Does God answer the prayer of the unrighteous? (Amos 5:21-24) Why?

Does God hear the prayer of the penitent sinner?    Yes          No

How is verse 12 of this chapter linked with 1 Peter 3:7? Why is this important?

What is the rhetorical question Peter asks in verse 13? Is this a guarantee?

How can we best respond when a person is annoyed by you or persecutes you for doing what is good? How do we often respond (unfortunately)? How do Job and David help us understand this? (2 Samuel 22:25)

What does it mean we are “blessed” if we are persecuted? (James 1:2-4, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

Peter tells us 2 ways in which we can keep from being fearful and troubled over persecution. What are they?

  1. Honor (Sanctify) Christ (Jesus) as .
  2. Always be prepared to give a  for the reason you have .

In Your Hearts Honor Christ as the Lord As Holy

What part of the body does Peter start with? Why does he do this? Does this mean our faith is purely an emotional assent? Why or why not? (Proverbs 23:7, Romans 12:1-2) What does this mean?

What does it mean to “honor”? (Greek word hagios) What does this mean for us?

Always Be Prepared to Give a Defense for the Reason You Have Hope.

What do we mean by the word “hope” (Biblically)?

What are 2 “foundational pillars” we MUST believe about God that give us hope?

  1. God is .
  2. God is .
