Issues of the Heart: Busyness and Rest
Mark 1:35-39
Scripture mentions multiple types of “rest,” and most are connected to a rhythm of life.
- Rest (Genesis 2:2-3)
- Sabbath (work) Rest (Exodus 34:21; Mark 2:27)
- Rest (Leviticus 25:4, 8-12)
Rest is generally defined as “peace, ease, or refreshment.”
- Rest (Matthew 11:28; Hebrews 4:9-10)
- Physical rest (Mark 6:31)
- Rest (Mark 1:32-39; John 15:1-10; Joshua 1:13; Psalm 37:7)
Here are a few principles from this scene that help us achieve balance between busyness and rest.
I. Rest must be a priority when you’re busy. (vv. 32-35)
II. we rest determines we rest. (v. 35)
- Jesus got away in the early morning, while it was still dark.
- He went away to a secluded place.
- And He was praying there.
For Christians who try to gain time by cutting corners devotionally, here are a few thoughts:
1) We never gain by losing .
2) Gained leisure is a poor substitute for neglected .
3) The Scriptural categories of rest are not .
III. Our is often clarified through our rest. (vv. 37-38)
