- Imagine that the Apostle Paul came to preach this coming Sunday at East White Oak. What would be your expectations? How polished was he at preaching? Do you think that he purposefully avoided rhetorical skill? What lessons does 2:1-5 have for us in our expectations and definition of good preaching? What topic needs to be central in all preaching? What does God like in a preacher?
- How would your life be different if this week you determined to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified? How might our boldness to proclaim Christ be different if we did not worry about eloquence but with weakness and fear asked the Holy Spirit to accompany the message with His power? How can you tap into the power of the Holy Spirit?
- Compare and contrast the world’s wisdom with God’s wisdom (vv. 6-9) How did Paul obtain God’s wisdom? (v. 12) What does Paul do with the wisdom from God? (v. 13)
- Is it possible for natural man to understand spiritual truth on his own? Why or why not? (v. 14) What does the spiritual man do with God’s wisdom? (v. 15) Does this mean that the spiritual man is accountable to no one but himself? Why or why not?
- Tell about a time when an unsaved person berated you for your faith. How did you feel? After studying this text, how should you feel about that?
