Your Own Notes:

Discussion Questions:

  1. What is your posture today? Are you feeling distracted by all the preparations that need to be made, like Martha?  Are you reclining at the table with Jesus, like Lazarus?  Are you at Jesus’ feet in a posture of humility, like Mary?  (See Luke 10:38-42)
  2. What do you most admire about Mary’s worship and why?
  3. What prevents us from being honest with God in our disappointment? (See John 11:31-35)
  4. Take some time privately to fill in the blank and pray this honestly to God: “If Jesus had been here, ____________ would not have died.”  If you feel comfortable, share what you wrote with someone.
  5. Picture how Jesus might feel when you shared the above statement with him. What difference does it make to you that Jesus is close to the brokenhearted and weeps with us? (Psalm 34:18).
  6. Mary broke her alabaster jar and anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume as a sign of her extravagant love for Jesus. (John 12:1-7) What’s the alabaster jar we have to give Jesus? Perhaps we need to surrender something that we have held on to for ourselves.
  7. In what ways, do you want to grow in your worship? Do you want to grow in having a humble heart, being honest and vulnerable with Jesus, or in bringing him all the honor? Or perhaps there is another way you want to grow in worship?
  8. Partner up and pray for another person in how they want to grow in their worship.
