It’s not about what you deserve

a. What the people .. (Luke 7:4-5)

“When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him. ‘This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.’”

b. What the centurion … (Luke 7:6-7)

“So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: ‘Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you…’”

c. What the Apostle Peter … (Luke 5:8)

“When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, ‘Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man.’”

d. What the Prophet Isaiah … (Isaiah 6:5)

“ ‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined. For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.’”

e. Why Jesus … (Matthew 1:20-23; John 3:16-17)

“But after (Joseph) had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”
(Matthew 1:20-23)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)

Today’s “Big Idea”…
