Calvary Baptist Church Red Bank The Backbone of Bible Prophecy Archived – November 19, 2023 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/ Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) Daniel 9:20-27, The Backbone of Bible Prophecy November 19, 2023 / Greg Powell / Daniel 9:20-27 This is a very pro-Israel portion of Scripture. In Matthew 24:15, Jesus was speaking of God’s prophetic program for Israel and specifically mentioned this part of Daniel and said that the reader needs to understand this. This has been called the backbone of Bible prophecy. If you understand this, then the rest of prophecy is much more clear. Jesus tells us to study it, so we better do what we are told! It’s the skeletal structure of all prophecy, so it needs to be taught and understood. Here is what Gabriel reveals to Daniel: God’s program with His people Israel will eventually end with the Messiah King reigning in total righteousness, but before that, there will be a terrible and vicious time for Israel at the hands of the antichrist, and all this will happen at exact times prescribed by God. I. The Time 70 Weeks = 70 ‘sevens’ Each ‘seven’ is 7 70 x 7 = Years The point of the 490 years is to God’s dealings with Israel. II. The This is talking about the – a God-conceived, God-ordained, God-beloved, and God-protected nation. They are a people. They are a people. They are an people. III. The The place of focus is . Jerusalem means “city of ,” and peace is coming one day! IV. The To figure out what’s To make it To it right To the deal For to reign forever V. The : (1) 7 units of 7 = 49 years (2) 62 units of 7 = 434 years (3) 1 unit of 7 = 7 years The Starts when the command to rebuild Jerusalem was given by Artaxerxes in 444 BC. The of Christ: The next 434 years brings us to Palm Sunday, AD 33. The : Messiah is “cut off” but“ not for Himself.” The of the City: Jerusalem and the Temple are destroyed in AD 70. The : There is a gap between Daniel’s 69th and 70th week that has now lasted 2000 years. The of the Covenant: After the rapture, the last unit of 7 begins called the Tribulation. VI. The Lessons God fulfills prophecy . God’s prophetic program for Israel and Gentiles will end with the of Jesus Christ to earth. Jesus Christ is the only One who is able to finish the issue for every person.
