The Heart of God

Luke 6:45 (NLT) A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Bottom line: if you want to know what God is like look closely at Jesus

Verses 2-3 For you have given him [that is Jesus speaking of Himself] authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life-to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

Verse 6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

Verse 19 And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.

ginosko – “to know” in the present tense, active voice- meaning it implies a continual action

John 14:6 “I am the way The Truth and The Life, no one comes to The Father except through me.

Isaiah 43:11 (NASB) I, only I, am the LORD, And there is no savior besides Me.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NIV) For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people…

John 10: 18 (NIV) [Jesus said:] No one takes it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.

Verse 6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT) But the LORD said to Samuel…” The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Grace: getting something positive that we really don’t deserve

As a true follower of Jesus, God sees your faults, your failures your shortcomings, but He does not define you by them when you are in Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators [any sexual sin], nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 3:23 “For ALL have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious perfect standard”

Romans 3:23-24 (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

If you wallow in being a drunkard, he can keep you drinking. If he can get you to wallow in your sexual moral failures, he can get you to keep having one night stands, keep you in those unbiblical relationships, he can keep you looking at porn. If he can get you to wallow in not trusting God, he can keep you not trusting God.

Verse 11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.

Verse 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.

John 16:33 (NIV) I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NIV) … to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power [The Good Shepherd’s Rod and Staff] may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
