Jesus Has Authority Over Sin – Matthew 9:1-8

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Jesus Has Authority to Save – Matthew 9:9-13

Matthew did nothing to earn his salvation.

He was politically unacceptable
He was socially unacceptable
He was religiously unacceptable

Jesus Has Authority Over Death – Matthew 9:18-26

When we began in Matthew’s gospel, we found that there are three types of people in the world:

Those who like Jesus and follow Him for what they can get from Him
Those who reject Jesus and His authority
Those who renounce all in order to follow Him

The right response is the last one – the one Matthew chose by renouncing all to follow Jesus and trust in His grace, mercy, and authority over his life.
