WORDS TO THE WISE – Live With The End in Mind

May 26, 2021 / James 1:9-12

INTRO: Word to the wise indicates that this is good and advice people would do well, to heed, whatever their current status in life.

In James 1:9-11, we are encouraged as Christians to live our faith in a gospel-centric manner regardless of our .

So we find in these three short verses James’ Words of Wisdom which are for all.

This lesson explores advice to the wise Christian, Rich or poor this speaks to the attitude you should have regardless of your circumstances.

  • What are the key points and passages in this message?

Firstly, James has

I. A WORD OF WISDOM FOR THE (Humble); James 1:9

  1. Your spiritual position is far greater than any material possessions. 
  2. The state of Believers is not dependent on our physical conditions but our spiritual based on faith and obedience to God. Romans 8:16-18 confirms this truth.
  3. You can be socially and economically humiliated, yet you are content because you are spiritually elevated and eternally wealthy in Christ. (1 Peter 1:3-9; 2 Corinthians 8:9 ESV; Ephesians 2:3; 1 Timothy 6:6-8).
  4. You may not have great worldly possessions, but your position in Christ gives you the reason to rejoice

🔹 Your is more than earthly wealth.

II. A WORD OF WISDOM FOR THE (Rich) James 1:10

  1. Your health is of far greater value than earthly wealth. Therefore to realize your spiritual condition is the most critical discovery of life.
  2. Our earthly possessions pale compared to our in Christ because riches are fleeting or temporary, but salvation is
  3. Therefore, we must not live our lives on the premise that wealth is everything. If your wealth is only earthly, then for you, life will end in tragedy. Seek the treasures of heaven instead (Matt. 6:19-21).
  4.  Let us be happy and boast with an attitude of humility that in , we are more than wealthy. (Read Psalm 34:2; Psalm 44:8 ;1 Corinthians 1:31)

🔹 The attitude of true wisdom is genuine .

💡Ⓜ️ Whether you are lowly or wealthy, your greatest asset is being healthy in Jesus (Matthew 16:20; Luke 12:15-21). 

III. A WORD OF WISDOM FOR (All of us) James 1:11

  1. Both the rich and the poor must always live with the in mind. 
  2.  Scriptures that encourage this are Psalms 39:4-6; Psalms 90:10,12, and this is the essence of James 1:9-11. 
  3. “James reminds us that worldly possessions are like the bloom of a plant that away after it displays its beauty.”
  4. Give more to your spiritual health than earthly wealth.

CHALLENGE (S) FOR US THIS WEEK:

  1. Don’t let your low condition your elevated position in Christ.
  2. Don’t if you don’t have a lot of riches!  Be proud of you are in Jesus!”
  3. Don’t that money and possession will solve all your problems. 
  4. Don’t place all in your earthly wealth but on the eternal inheritance awaiting in heaven.
