A Fully Charged Life

January 30, 2022

📚 THEME: The Next Level

📖 TEXT: Mark 9:14-18, 19-29_______________

  • A fully charged life is equipped to defeat demonic forces.

Mark 9:25-29
25 Now when Jesus saw that the crowd was quickly growing larger, he commanded the demon, saying, “Deaf and mute spirit, I command you to come out of him and never enter him again!”

26 The demon shrieked and threw the boy into terrible seizures and finally came out of him! As the boy lay there, looking like a corpse, everyone thought he was dead. 27 But Jesus stooped down, gently took his hand, and raised him up to his feet, and he stood there completely set free!

28 Afterwards, when Jesus arrived at the house, his disciples asked him in private, “Why couldn’t we cast out the demon?”

29 He answered them, “This type of powerful spirit can only be cast out by fasting and prayer.” – Mark 9:1429 (TPT)

  •  As believers, we often do not succeed despite our best efforts because we fail to rely on God’s help.

Jesus had given His disciples authority to cast out demons and they had been previously successful at doing so (Mark 6:7, 13). However, their ministry to this boy didn’t seem to be having that effect.

  • What happened to the disciples?
  • Was the authority to cast out demons removed?
  • Was this demon too powerful?

As Jesus came by with the other disciples, the focus came to Him. He found out what was going on and, as He does, stepped in to solve the problem. You see, although the disciples still had authority from the Lord, and no demon can overpower our Lord, as we keep studying along in this chapter, we come to realize that something had changed in the disciples from the time they were given authority to the time of this encounter—they forgot how to tap into their power source!

  • When we start being careless and stop tapping into our power source (our relationship with God), we will become weaker over sin or other evil influences in our life.

We need to always stay plugged into God, because when we do,

“He gives strength to the weary and increases power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29 NIV).

Ⓜ️ Today’s battles are not won on the basis of yesterday’s win.

  • Past wins may serve as fuel (motivation) but you need today’s fire to conquer present day challenges.

Ⓜ️ Past victories are not always guarantee of future wins.

There is a need for fresh dependency on God.

ℹ️ 🕯ILLUS: My Battery Powered Drill

Could it be that the reason we are not getting victory, why we’re struggling to get to the next level, it’s because we need a fresh change.

Are you trying to do great work with uncharged battery/life?

  1. We rob ourselves of experiencing God’s unstoppable power when we fail to consistently connect with Him in prayer.

Let us stop neglecting spending quality time in prayer to God.

Prayer gives us power to make progress on all types of problems.

To have the power Jesus demonstrated

  • We have to get committed to doing all it takes to meet with God in prayer
  • We have to refuse to hit snooze when it’s time to get up and pray
  • We have to be determined to be disciplined.
  • Not picking up the phone, first thing in the morning, unless it’s for prayer meeting (or for Bible reading – if needed)

There is hardly any failure in our lives as Christians that can’t be traced back to failure in our prayer life.

Ⓜ️ Miracles outflows from the inflow of an authentic relationship with God.

🔸 Like Jesus, I want to have a prayer life that is not just a religious task but an activity that flows as part of my relationship with God.

(❓) Could it be that we struggled with praying because we see it more as a ritual than a relationship.

  • When Adam and Eve didn’t show up, it was clear that something was wrong.

I believe God wants us to have an intimate, confident, committed, conversation with Him as we would have with each other.

If we should just carefully look at how the Bible characters interacted with God, and God didn’t bring down judgment on them we would learn to lighten up with God and experience him more joyfully.

Yes, Prayer should be a discipline that we developed as Christians but sometimes that is the issue.

  • It’s approached more as a drill than a delight or a duty than a devotion.
  • God doesn’t not desire that we approach Prayer as a chao but more like making a connection with your father.

I want my Prayer life to be as the psalmist expressed in Psalm 42:1-2,

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God

Ⓜ️ You cannot expect miracles if Your prayer life is just going through the motions.

Jesus specifically warns of this type of heartless, faithless prayer in Matthew 6:7.

“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. “ Matthew 6:7

Ⓜ️ It’s not the multitude of words, but the manifestation of faith that moves God.

  • The Prayer that produces results is a conversation with God that’s based on faith

Hebrews 11:6 confirms this truth.

(NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

The writer of Psalm 77 in Vss.1,14, reminds us that we can have faith in God when we pray, because we are praying to a God who works wonders. Psalm 77:1,13, 14

(NKJV) 1 I cried out to God with my voice— To God with my voice; And He gave ear to me.

(NKJV) 13 Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary;

Who is so great a God as our God?

14 You are the God who does wonders;

You have declared Your strength among the peoples.

We are told by Paul that God is able to do far above anything we could ask or imagine. Ephesians 3:20

God is not only a miracle working God but also a caring God.that’s the testimony of the psalmist in Psalm 147:3

(NKJV) 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Jeremiah 29:12-14, points to the result of praying in faith.

(NKJV) 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

14 I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.

🔹 Your prayer doesn’t have to look a certain way or sound a certain way to be heard by God

=> You just need to Have faith, be humble and honest.

Let us not make the same mistake as these early disciples.

  • Prayer is far too powerful to allow routine or religion to steal its effectiveness”.  By Tyler Speegle – January 14, 2022

Luke 18:1 continuity

(NKJV) 1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,

  • •••••••••••[ALTAR •⇩• MINISTRY]••••••••••••

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16)

My acronym for the GOSPEL

Here is that simple G.O.S.P.E.L. acrostic:

God created us to be with him.

Our sins separate us from God.

Sins cannot be removed by good deeds.

Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.

Everyone who trusts in him alone has eternal life.

Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever.
